Ball of Industry And Technology
At the time of the monarchy, one member of the imperial family was a protector of the ball, from 1892 to 1911 Archduke Ferdinand Karl, followed in 1912 by Archduke Leopold Salvator.
In the first republic, top politicians such as the Federal Chancellor in office at the time assumed patronage over the ball. In the second republic, the balls of industry and technology were under the protection of honor by the respective Federal President or Chancellor, who also repeatedly opened the ball personally.
The Young Ladies ‘and Young Gentlemen’s Committee, led by the Ball Presidents, opens the ball with a polonaise, the bat quadrille and the traditional left-hand waltz to Josef Strauss’ “My CV is love and pleasure”.
The arrival of the guests of honor with representatives from industry and business, followed by the rectors and members of the government, underlines the social importance of the ball. The connection to the Vienna University of Technology is rewarded by a large number of academic dignitaries.
The visitors’ frame of the ball is shaped by members of the Techniker Cercles and their friends and relatives. The technician cercle takes over the organization every year and ensures a lavish ball night and a successful result through volunteer work.
The always numerous, enthusiastic youth and two chapels alternately performing in the “Golden Hall” provide for a lively atmosphere, one specializing in Viennese waltzes and the other in international standard dances. The disco in the “Transparent Hall” guarantees a change to the modern rhythms and a change to a bar atmosphere.
With the midnight quadrille, in which every ball visitor can participate, the ball reaches an atmospheric climax. Those who stayed until the traditional end of the ball at 5 a.m. experience with “Brüderlein fein”, played with the tenderest violin sound, a contemplative end to the ball festival.
For years the ball of industry and technology has characterized the combination of technology, industry, economy and science with the freshness of youth. With its genuine elegance and festive mood, it is one of the social highlights of the Viennese ball season.
